Week 10 Reflection and Summary
What a week of deliverance, provision and resurrection! We watched God part the Red Sea and lead Israel through the wilderness to Sinai, journeyed through Psalms as they moved lament to praise, and walked with Jesus from His unjust trial all the way to the empty tomb and the road to Emmaus. If you've fallen behind, the weekend is your chance to catch up. And if you're on track, take a moment to thank God for the privilege of spending time in His Word this week.
Old Testament: Exodus 14-21
This week traced God's dramatic deliverance of Israel at the Red Sea, then His steady provision and guidance through the wilderness - manna, water from the rock, wise counsel from Jethro - before He established His covenant and law at Sinai. The big idea running through it all is that the same God who saves also provides and calls His people to a holy life.
Reflection question: Where in your life do you need to trust God's provision and guidance, as Israel did in the wilderness?
Poetry: Psalms 43-47
This week's Psalms moved from longing and lament (43-44) through a Messianic wedding song (45) to confident praise of God as our refuge, fortress and King (46-47). Even in defeat and difficulty, the Psalms teach us to keep pressing into God rather than away from Him, until praise has the final word.
Reflection question: Which of this week's Psalms best captures where your heart is today - lament, longing or praise?
New Testament: Luke 23:1-24:35
This week we walked with Jesus from His unjust trial before Pilate, through the crucifixion and burial, all the way to the empty tomb and His appearance to two disciples on the road to Emmaus. Jesus is risen indeed, and Luke's Gospel closes exactly where it should - with hearts burning at the reality of the risen Christ.
Reflection question: Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, has your heart been burning within you this week as you've encountered Jesus in His Word?
A Prayer for the Day
🙏 Lord, thank You that You are the God who saves, provides and guides, just as You did for Israel in the wilderness; teach our hearts to move from lament to praise as the Psalms do; and thank You most of all that Jesus is risen indeed - may our hearts burn within us as we walk with You each day. Amen.
