Week 17 Reflection and Summary
Well done for another week in the Word! We read about holy living and worship that honours God in Leviticus, remembered and cried out to God with the psalmists, and followed Paul from a prison in Philippi to Athens and Corinth. If you've fallen behind, the weekend is your chance to catch up. And if you're on track, take a moment to thank God for the privilege of spending time in His Word this week.
Old Testament: Leviticus 18-23
This week God called His people to be holy and separate from the customs of the cultures around them. He held His priests to a high standard, asked for offerings without defect, and gave Israel a yearly cycle of feasts to help them remember Him. The big idea is that God's people are to do things His way, and to bring Him their very best.
Reflection question: Where is God calling you to do things His way, rather than following the customs of the world around you?
Poetry: Psalms 77-80
This week's Psalms showed us what to do when life is hard. We choose to remember God's greatness, we pass on the story of His mercy to the next generation, and we cry out to Him as our Shepherd and King, asking Him to restore us. The big idea is that remembering and crying out go together, and God is faithful to His people through both.
Reflection question: What can you remember about God's faithfulness that will give you hope in a hard place today?
New Testament: Acts 16:16-18:28
We watched Paul and Silas sing in prison and see a jailer come to faith, met resistance in Thessalonica and eager Bible students in Berea, and heard Paul share the good news with the thinkers of Athens in words they could understand. In Corinth, God encouraged Paul, and ordinary believers like Priscilla and Aquila helped the gospel to spread. The big idea is that the good news moves forward through opposition, carried by ordinary people who love Jesus.
Reflection question: Are you searching the Scriptures like the Bereans, to see for yourself that the good news of Jesus is true?
A Prayer for the Weekend
๐ Lord, thank You for this week in Your Word. You are holy, and You call us to live set apart for You. Teach us to remember Your goodness when life is hard, to cry out to You as our Shepherd and King, and to share Your good news with joy, like Paul and Silas and Priscilla and Aquila. Amen.
