Week 18 Reflection and Summary

What a week it has been! We finished the book of Leviticus, began Numbers, sang and prayed our way through Psalms 81 to 85, and followed the Spirit's work in Ephesus before walking with Paul towards Jerusalem. Take some time this weekend to rest, and think back over what God has shown you.

Old Testament

Leviticus closed with worship that never stops, rest for the land, blessings for obedience and vows made in gratitude, and Numbers began with a people being prepared for the journey ahead. Through it all we see a God who calls His people to holiness, and who has made a way for us to be holy through Christ our High Priest. What a joy that we are no longer tied to the rituals, but can draw near by faith!

Reflection question: Where do you need to loosen your grip on what you own, or offer something to God in gratitude today?

Poetry

The Psalms this week moved from a call to worship and a warning to listen (Psalm 81), through God's justice for the needy (82) and His protection of His people (83), to longing for His presence (84) and a prayer for revival (85). Again and again we saw that God satisfies those who listen to Him and dwell with Him. Since the Spirit now dwells within us, we are the temples these Psalms longed for!

Reflection question: What would it look like for you to listen more closely to God this week?

New Testament

In Acts we watched the Spirit fall on the believers in Ephesus, the sons of Sceva learn that Jesus' name is no magic word, and a riot break out when the gospel threatened the idols of the city. Then Paul gave his emotional farewell to the Ephesian elders, and showed great courage as he headed for Jerusalem. What commitment he had, and what an example for us!

Reflection question: Is there a calling from God that you are tempted to avoid because of the cost?

A Prayer for the Day

๐Ÿ™ Lord, thank You for Your Word this week. Thank You that Your Spirit dwells within us, that You satisfy those who listen to You, and that You give us the courage to follow wherever You lead. Help us to carry these truths into the week ahead. Amen.
