Week 6 Reflection and Summary
What a week of testing, integrity, and mercy! We've watched Joseph rise from the pit to the palace without losing his character along the way, sat with David through prayers of trust, guidance, and quiet courage, and heard Jesus call us to watchful, wholehearted discipleship. If you've fallen behind, the weekend is your chance to catch up. And if you're on track, take a moment to thank God for the privilege of spending time in His Word this week.
Old Testament: Genesis 38-43
This week's Genesis readings carried us from Judah's shameful failure to Joseph's remarkable integrity - in Potiphar's house, in prison, and finally on Egypt's throne. The big idea running through it all is that God stays faithfully at work in a person's life through every unjust turn, quietly preparing them for a purpose they can't yet see. By the end of the week, the very brothers who once sold Joseph into slavery are standing before him, terrified and unaware that his love for them has never wavered.
Reflection question: Where in your own life might God be working through hardship in ways you can't yet see?
Poetry: Psalms 24-28
Five psalms of David, and each one turns our eyes back to who God is - the King of glory, the guide of the humble, the God who tests hearts, our light and salvation, and our strength and shield in tough times. The big idea is that worship and integrity go hand in hand - David doesn't just praise God from a distance, he asks to be examined, tested, and kept close.
Reflection question: Which of this week's psalms best captures your own posture before God right now - worship, honesty, or dependence?
New Testament: Luke 12:35-14:35
This week Luke took us from Jesus' call to watchful readiness, through warnings about repentance and the narrow door, to His grief over Jerusalem, His welcome of the overlooked to His table, and finally His honest call to count the cost of following Him. The big idea is that Jesus wants disciples who are alert, humble, and wholehearted - not those who presume upon Him or follow at half measure.
Reflection question: Where is Jesus asking you to be more watchful, more humble, or more wholehearted in your own walk with Him?
A Prayer for the Weekend
🙏 Lord, thank You for another week in Your Word. You worked faithfully in Joseph even in the pit and the prison, You welcome our honest worship as David did, and You call us to watchful, wholehearted discipleship through Jesus. Teach us to trust Your unseen work in our own lives, to bring You our whole hearts, and to count the cost of following You gladly, today. Amen.
