Week 8 Reflection and Summary
Well done for pressing on into a new book this week! We watched Israel's slavery begin under a cruel Pharaoh, sang through some of David's richest words on trust, and walked with Jesus from persistent prayer all the way to His triumphant, and provocative, entry into Jerusalem. Old Testament: Exodus 1-7
This week's readings took us from Israel groaning under Pharaoh's cruelty to Moses' reluctant calling at the burning bush, and finally to the first plague striking the Nile. The big idea running through it all is that God had not forgotten His people - He was quietly at work outwitting Pharaoh from the very first chapter, and He met Moses' doubts with patience rather than rejection.
Reflection question: Where is God calling you, like Moses, despite your own doubts or past failures?
Poetry: Psalms 34-37
David gave us a rich toolkit this week - inviting us to taste and see God's goodness, to pray boldly for vindication, to walk in the ways of God rather than sinners, and to trust rather than fret over the wicked. The big idea is that a life of faith is one of deliberate, daily trust in a God who can be tasted, proven, and relied upon.
Reflection question: In what area of your life are you tempted to fret rather than trust?
New Testament: Luke 18-20
We watched Jesus teach persistent, humble prayer, challenge a rich ruler, heal a blind beggar, transform a despised tax collector, and ride into Jerusalem in humble triumph before exposing the hearts of the religious leaders. The big idea is that Jesus welcomes the humble and the seeking - Zacchaeus, the blind man, the tax collector - while confronting those too proud to recognise Him.
Reflection question: Are you approaching Jesus this week like the humble tax collector, or the proud religious leaders?
A Prayer for the Weekend
🙏 Lord, thank You for another week in Your Word. You have not forgotten Your people, You can be tasted and trusted rather than merely believed in, and You welcome the humble who come seeking You. Teach us to trust rather than fret, and to recognise You when You come to us. Amen.
