A Wondrous Attraction For Me
Let's look at verse two of The Old Rugged Cross. My friends Etienne and Leeanne Du Toit from Crystal Park Baptist Church are singing this verse.
Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world
Has a wondrous attraction for me
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary
The Atoning Work of the Cross
Those are deep words. “Oh that old rugged cross so despised by the world”, and it really is. If you're not a Christian, the cross is pointless to you. It's silly. It's foolishness! Paul said the cross is foolishness to people who don't know the truth, but to those who have been saved it has a wondrous attraction.
Does the cross draw you in? Pull you in? It should, friends. Because something amazing happened there. All those years ago, the dear Lamb of God left His glory above to bear that cross to Calvary.
What happened on the cross? It was Jesus giving himself up as the final sacrifice for sin. No longer do sins need to be atoned for by our own sacrifices. Because Jesus came to be the Lamb of God who would bear our sins, since our sins were placed upon him, and those who place their faith in him have their sins forgiven and washed away because of his sacrifice, because of the atoning work that he did.
The Wondrous Attraction of the Cross
Friends is the cross a wondrous attraction to you today? Know today that Christ went to that cross for you, to save you, so that you, could have your, sins washed away, if you repent and come to him in faith.
There's no other way. There's no other way but through the dear Lamb of God's sacrifice.
I pray that this Holy Week you will be drawing nearer and that the cross will be shining its wondrous attraction to you because of what Jesus did for you.
