Bring God the Small Things
Andrew Murray was born into a family of ministers and his uncle John was a minister in Scotland as well. On page 25, here is a quote from Andrew Murray's father, again, who talks about what he learned from his brother, John. Let me read it to you. “I found myself embarrassed with some a little difficulties, and I knew prayer was the way to relief in great matters. But I thought it would be dishonouring to the great God to come and speak to Him about my little things. I spoke to my brother (Uncle John) on the subject, who assured me I could not honour God more than by taking all my little needs to him. If in a humble frame of mind and in with the desire to obtain his direction in assistance. This simple assurance from one on whose judgment I depended gave me great relief.”
Does God Care About Little Things?
I wonder if you can relate to that. Maybe you think, oh God couldn't care about my little problems, you know? I'll go to him when there's a big issue, when I have something serious to deal with. But with my little things, my little issues, God doesn’t have time for that. Andrew Murray Senior discovered thanks to his brother John, that this is not the case, but God is greatly honoured when we go to Him with the little things. If we trust God so much that we bring him even the smallest struggle and worry and difficulty in our life, of course it's going to honour him.
Run to God With the Little Things
Think about your prayer life for a moment. Are you bringing only the big things to God and leaving the small things out because you don't think He'd care? Oh friends, run to Him with even the smallest problem, run to him with even the tiniest struggle or issue in your life! Plead with him for even those things the world thinks are insignificant. You'll be keeping up your relationship with him, and you'll be honouring him.
And you know what, friends? He will listen. He will listen to every word that you bring to him in prayer and answer you in his wise and loving way. May we discover, like Andrew Murray Sr., the joy of bringing everything to God in prayer.
