His Name Above All Names Shall Stand

I love this song Blessed Be the Name, which really gives joyful expression to the greatness of Jesus and His love for people. Verse 2 carries on where verse 1 left off, have a listen:

His name above all names shall stand,
Exalted more and more,
At God the Father's own right hand,
Where angel hosts adore.

These are great words of praise to sing. Again the writer is drawing from Philippians 2, which we read yesterday, which talks about Jesus being given the name above all names and being exalted by God to the highest place. The early church had such a high view of Jesus! For them, He was more than just a carpenter who died as a martyr after giving some good ethical teachings. He was the one and only Messiah, and after they saw Him rise from the dead and then ascend into Heaven, there was no doubt in their minds about the fact that His was the name above all names.

The Unshakeable Name of Jesus

I like how the writer here says that His name shall stand as the name above all names. Over the centuries, people have tried to knock the name of Jesus down from its place of glory. They've tried to disparage and disprove and discount Him, and yet His name stands firm as the name above them all! Nothing will topple the mighty King Jesus from His exalted place.

The writer also says that Jesus is exalted more and more. I love this. His kingdom is ever-expanding. In fact Isaiah 9 says that His kingdom will never end. So, as new people are born and grow up, more and more people are added to the kingdom as they encounter Jesus and bow before Him. What a thought!

Worshipping With the Angels

Let's adore this Jesus today. And let's remember that as we do, we join in with the angels who adore Him, as the song says. He is now at the Father's right hand, with the angels praising Him as the worthy Son of God who died as a spotless lamb for the sins of the people. When we worship Him, like we do when we sing songs like these, we join in with a great host of angels who praise Him day and night.

Today, you could get fixated on the worries and troubles of life, or you can fix your eyes on Jesus - the name above all names, the exalted one, the ascended one whom angels adore. Listen to this verse again and may the words cause your heart to soar in praise today!
