Grateful for Mentors

Friends, I can’t believe it, but my time at eMseni is up! The office is closed. Yesterday was my farewell, and I’ll take my final service here on Sunday, the 19th of December.

What a time it’s been! Four years that I will always remember with such gladness.

Grateful for Mentors

One of the things I’m most grateful for are all the mentors that I’ve found here. When I arrived, Bill Maker was the minister here, and his support and encouragement over the years have been priceless to me. I’ve learnt so much from him and really look up to him as both a minister and a man.

And then, of course, Derek Wilson — many of you know — has been my mentor my whole life. He baptized me, confirmed me, married Shereen and I, and so the chance to work here with him has been just incredible. I’m so grateful for all his support and for being the role model that he is.

There’s this great verse in Psalm 16:3 (NLT): “The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them.”

As I think back on my time here at eMseni, I really do take pleasure in having worked with these godly people. They truly are my spiritual heroes, and I thank God — I thank God so much — for them.

Be Thankful

So what about you? Do you have spiritual mentors that you’re grateful for? Do you have people in your life you look up to as role models in the Christian faith?

I want to say to you, be grateful. Be so grateful for people like this. Seek them out if you don’t have them, because they are precious. And be sure to thank them for the role they play in your life.

My time at eMseni wouldn’t have been the same without them, and I know your life will be enriched by finding mentors such as these.
