His Blood Cleanses Us
The blood of Jesus ransoms us, as we heard yesterday, and it also cleanses us. All of us need cleansing. Our sins stain our souls, and how we need those stains washed away.
In the Old Testament, there was a system for this. The priest would make animal sacrifices on behalf of the people and the blood which the animal shed and the ashes from the sacrifice would ‘atone’ for the sin.
Then came Jesus! He said I will be the final sacrifice. And His blood was shed and sprinkled onto our souls, to cleanse us of sin’s stains.
Cleansing through Redemption
The book of Hebrews says it this way: “The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!” (Hebrews 9:13–14 NIV11)
What sins drag you down? What sins stain your soul? What darkness do you hide away for nobody to see?
God sees. But instead of leaving you with your stains he has made provision for your cleansing!!! To wash away your stains!!
Waves of Redemption
A woman came to a minister one day carrying a container of wet sand. “Do you see what this is, sir?” she asked. “Yes,” was the reply, “it is wet sand.” “But do you know what it means?” He said, “Not really, what are you talking about?”
“Well,” she said, “that’s me; and the multitude of the sins that constantly dirty my heart cannot be numbered.” Then she exclaimed, “Oh, I am such a wretch! How can somebody like me ever be saved and from the influences of this world?”
“Where did you get the sand?” asked the minister. “At the beach,” she said.
“Go back, then, to the beach,” said the minister. “Pour out your multitude of sins on the beach. Then stand back and watch the effect of the waves upon the heap of the sand.”
“What the waves do that mound of sand— this is what the blood, the blood, the blood of Christ, will do to your mound of sins! It will wash it all away and will keep washing any new dark stains away.”
Cleansing at Calvary
Is your soul like a bag of wet sand? Heavy and dark? Bring it to the cross today! Bring it to the cross of Jesus! Here you will find a great flow, a great tide, and as it washes over you, your stains will be washed away and you will be cleansed!!!
One drop would be enough. But with Jesus there is a flow, a tide, to wash away the sins and stains of the world!
There’s a song that says what can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!!! His blood cleanses and makes even the foulest clean. Hallelujah!
What a wonder, to be cleansed by Him today. I pray that you will receive it, and stop living in shame today.
