We Respond With Praise

There's one more way that David responds to all these great gifts he's received from God.

Verses 8 to 10 say: “Among the gods there is none like you, Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. All the nations You’ve made will come and worship before You, Lord; they will bring glory to Your name. For You are great and do marvellous deeds; You alone are God.”

Then down in verse 12: “I will praise You, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify Your name for ever.”

David's response to what God has done and who He is, is to praise — to give Him glory — and these are wonderful words capturing who God is.

The Power of Praising God Daily

So here's a question: looking back on your week, has it been a week of much praise? Have you been lifting God up with words like this day after day?

I think for many of us we forget to do this, but stating God's greatness, telling Him how wonderful He is, is a wonderful practice. And you know why? It's not to stroke His ego. It's not to try twist His arm so that maybe He'll be nice to you because you said nice words to Him. No, that's petty religious nonsense.

We praise God because it honours Him and because it gives us joy!

CS Lewis said it so well. In his book about the Psalms, he says “It's not out of compliment that lovers keep on telling one another how beautiful they are — the delight is incomplete until it is expressed. “ In other words, there's joy in telling someone how much you love them.

And it's the same with our relationship with God. We don't praise because it's the right thing to do. We praise because if we truly love Him, praising Him is the most wonderful thing we could do.

An Invitation to Worship with Joy

I wonder if we've been praising God enough. Maybe today can be a day that we put on some worship music on YouTube and just sing His praises. Maybe today is the day we'll read verses 8-12 of the Psalm over and over until it sinks into our souls.

God loves us so much! God desires our greatest good and our greatest joy. And you know how we find that greatest joy? It's by praising Him more than anything else.

Be glad and give Him the praise today, friends — let your heart sing. As David said, not only will God be glorified, but in that praise, if you do it out of love for Him, you will find great joy that nothing else brings.

Have a worshipful weekend and go well.
