Negativity Infection
Well, as Doctor Seth prepared to do this amazing surgery—well, as Doctor Seth prepared to do the surgery on Melissa—he started to really doubt himself. He started to think, what if somebody else could do this better? And he started to worry if he might get it all wrong.
But then he said on page 82, “I couldn't afford to think like that. If I did, the infection would have worked its way to my mind, my soul. We can't allow our spirits to be poisoned,” he said.
Spiritual Negativity Destroys
That was a pretty profound realization in my mind. He realized that negativity and self-doubt is really an infection living in your mind and in your soul.
I want to say to you today, you can't allow your mind to be infected with such negativity. You can't afford to be poisoned in your thinking by getting down on yourself and being full of self-pity. You simply can't afford it, friends. It will kill your spirit much faster than any disease will kill your body.
Replace Doubt With Truth
Instead, why don't you fill your mind with great truths from the Scriptures like this from Isaiah 41:10: “Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Shouldn't that be what you fill your mind with rather than the negativity?
Now Paul taught something similar way back in Philippians 4:8: “Brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
Meditate on God's Word
Meditate on good things. Get your mind set on true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable things. Don't let the poisonous infection of negativity and self-doubt take over your mind, friends, but let God's peace fill you by meditating on the good things.
In a similar way, the psalmist in Psalm 1 said that the person who meditates on God's law day and night prospers.
And so what are you putting into your mind? Don't let the poisonous negativity get you down. But like Doctor Seth had to do, meditate on the good things and find strength, find God's help as you do.
