Wrapping You in His Arms

OK, now the chorus of Gavin's song is probably my favorite part. Have a listen to these words.

Cause He's more than a father, He's everything I want
He holds creation in His hands, but me in His arms
He's my father and He'll never let me go
He's made me His child and forever loves me so
He's my father

Held in His Arms

Beautiful, beautiful stuff. And that one sentence has always impacted me. He holds creation in his hands, but me in his arms. Isn't that a thought, that the God who made creation, who holds the universe in his hands - He's so big, he's so mighty, he's so powerful - He holds you and me in his arms, loving us with tender love and affection.

A lot of the time in the Bible, God's arms represent his power. He often told the Israelites that he redeemed them with an outstretched arm. And I think any child sees their father as strong, even if the man might not be a big man. Generally, as a kid, you look at your father and think he's a big, strong man. And of course, he is stronger than the child. The child rests in the strength of the father's arms.

God’s Tender Love

But there's a beautiful passage in Isaiah 40 that shows God's arms as both mighty and tender. Verse 10: “See, the sovereign Lord comes with power, and he rules with a mighty arm.” And then verse 11 says, “He tends his flock like a shepherd. He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart.”

Isn't that a beautiful picture of God's tender love for us? Every child needs the tender arms of their father carrying them carefully and tenderly.

And of course, Jesus echoed this famously in Mark chapter 10:16: “He took the children in his arms and blessed them by placing his hands on them.”

Do you know God in this way today, my friends? Do you know God as the One who not only holds creation in His hands, who is big and mighty, but who holds you in His arms?

He loves His children tenderly, tenderly. So draw near to Him today, and in faith, feel His arms around you, giving you comfort, warmth, and love.
