Jesus Came a Sword to Bring

This might be the toughest song I have written - based on Jesus’ words about Him bringing a sword and not peace, in Matthew 10:34. What did He mean by that? Here are my thoughts set to a haunting melody.

Verse 1
Jesus came a sword to bring, doubled edged and true
Those who walk the narrow way an alien life pursue
Taking up the heavy cross of justice, truth and grace
Is foolishness to everyone who turns from His embrace

Verse 2
Jesus came a sword to bring, dividing goats and sheep
Those who hear and know His voice are safely in His keep
Those who hear and turn away, or take His name in vain
Are cast away into the dark forever to remain

Verse 3
Jesus came a sword to bring, to put our sin to death
To impale our selfishness and breathe on us His breath
Jesus came His peace to bring, His Spirit's fullness given
To prepare His holy bride to be with Him in heaven
