Week 11 Reflection and Summary
What a week of law and Spirit! We moved from the practical, holy details of Israel's law, through five psalms of praise, warning and confession, and watched the risen Jesus ascend before the Holy Spirit fell in power on the early church. If you've fallen behind, the weekend is your chance to catch up. And if you're on track, take a moment to thank God for the privilege of spending time in His Word this week.
Old Testament: Exodus 22-27
This week's laws and tabernacle instructions can feel a world away from us, but the big idea running through them all is that God cares about every detail of how His people live and how they approach Him - from honesty in daily dealings, to rest, to the precise pattern of a tent where He would dwell among them. Every curtain and altar pointed forward to Jesus, who has become for us everything the tabernacle once was.
Reflection question: Where might God be calling you to greater holiness in the small, practical details of your everyday life?
Poetry: Psalms 48-52
Five psalms this week carried us from the might of our God as a fortress, through the certainty of death and the emptiness of wealth, into a call for genuine faith over empty ritual, David's famous confession of sin, and a warning to those who trust in themselves rather than God. The big idea is that true security is found in God alone, not in status, wealth, ritual or self-reliance.
Reflection question: Which of this week's five psalms speaks most directly into where you're placing your trust right now?
New Testament: Luke 24:36-53, Acts 1:1-2:46
This week we watched the risen Jesus prove Himself alive, ascend into heaven, and keep His promise by sending the Holy Spirit in power at Pentecost. The big idea is that Jesus' ascension was not an ending but a beginning - He sent His Spirit so that His small movement of disciples could become something that changes the world.
Reflection question: How is the Holy Spirit's power showing up in your own life and witness at the moment?
A Prayer for the Weekend
🙏 Lord, thank You for this week in Your Word. You care about every detail of our lives, You alone are our true security, and You have kept every promise by sending Your Spirit in power. Help us to walk in holiness, to trust You above all else, and to live as bold witnesses filled with Your Spirit. Amen.
