Welcome to Bible in 2 Years!
I've always struggled to read the Bible in a year - it requires too much reading each day, and eventually I just begin mindlessly trying to get through it. On the other hand, reading small sections of the Bible seems to get me nowhere.
In light of this, I decided to put together a 2-year Bible reading plan, where I read Monday to Friday, with weekends to catch up.
Each day consists of three readings:
One or two chapters from the Old Testament history and prophecy sections (which you will get through once in the two years)
One chapter (or less) from the Wisdom books of the Old Testament - Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, and Lamentations (you'll read these twice in the two years)
One passage from the New Testament (it will take us the full two years to finish this)
The three readings should take you about 15-20 minutes in all each day. Figure out what works best for you: all three readings at once, or different reading times throughout the day.
What's New: The Blog Format
This updated version of the plan now comes with daily blog posts to accompany your reading. Each post is designed not just to tell you what to read, but to help you engage with it more deeply.
For each passage, you'll find:
📖 What are we reading? - A short summary to orient you in the passage.
✞ What does this passage say about God? - A prompt to help you see God at work in the text.
🛐 How does this passage teach us to live? - A practical application point to take into your day.
And for those who want to go further, there's a Looking for some extra info? section with:
➡️ The bigger picture - A brief overview of the book you're reading, including author and date information.
🎤 A sermon - Links to relevant sermons where available.
♫ A song - A worship song to go with the reading, where one fits.
📝 A devotional - Links to written devotionals on the topic, where available.
📰 An article - Further reading for those who want to dig deeper.
Each daily post closes with a short prayer, pulling together the main thread of the day's readings.
On Saturdays, instead of a single verse, you'll find a weekly Reflection and Summary - a short paragraph on the big idea from each of the three reading streams that week, with a reflection question for each, and a closing prayer.
A Few Notes Before We Begin
Pray a lot! Pray before you read and ask for His guidance and wisdom. Pray as you read, involving God in the process. Pray after you read and ask God to write His truth on your heart. If you aren't praying your way through this plan, it will probably have little to no real impact on you. Remember, it is more about meeting God than amassing knowledge.
Consider re-reading the same passages during the day. I can't tell you how much this changed things for me! I am fascinated by how much more I get out of each reading when I read it more than once. God has a way of speaking during the second reading and revealing things I had missed first time round.
If you fall behind, remember - you can catch up on Saturdays and Sundays.
Find someone to do this journey with. Someone who you can read with, or just someone you can talk to about the readings and what you are learning. This will really help you keep going on the days you don't feel like it.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments on the readings.
May God bless you richly as you undertake this journey! I am praying for you all each day.
