Keep On Believing (Canaan Melodies #26)

This is a rare holiness tune by an old Nazarene writer and pastor J. Glenn Gould. This song proclaims the 'second blessing' of sanctification and compares it to the Israelites' crossing the river Jordan to the promised land by faith.

LYRICS:

1. The Israelites left Egypt for the promised land
They wandered through the wilderness, a doubting band
But by and by they found that sin was them deceiving
They crossed the river Jordan, and kept right on believing

Refrain:
Keep on believing for the vict’ry is near
Keep on believing there is nothing to fear
Keep on believing for the sky soon will clear
Such peace and joy receiving, we’ll keep right on believing

2. Thank God! I’ve left the bondage of old Egypt’s land
And fled from Satan’s desert with its burning sand
I surely met the Lord, salvation full receiving
I’m living now in Canaan, and keeping on believing

3. This wondrous second blessing in my heart abides
And Jesus Christ the Saviour my transgression hides
And now the cunning foe my heart is not deceiving
My soul is cleansed from evil, and I keep on believing

4. This blessed land of Beulah now is free to you
Your Lord is waiting for you there, He’ll take you through
From sin He’ll make you free, your burdened heart relieving
Come march right into Canaan and just keep on believing
