A Hopeful Man
Another thing that came out in this funeral service for Uncle Cockie was that he was a man of hope. His life was defined by the hope he had in Christ.
I found a little video that he did on YouTube about hope, and I thought I'd share some of his words with you. Listen to him speak here.
Hope in God’s Promises
“Your living hope is founded upon a promise of God. When God gives you a promise, you receive it in faith, and then you pursue it in hope, expecting to receive it. Hope is a positive expectation for what God has promised.
I like to explain faith and hope in this simple way. Suppose you were to travel from Johannesburg to Cape Town. A thousand miles or more. You would need two things: a good vehicle and enough gasoline in your tank. The vehicle I call faith and the gasoline I would call hope. After traveling many miles, the fuel runs low and you have to find a filling station. You don't need a new vehicle, but you need to watch that fuel gauge.
Filling Up With New Hope
God gives you a promise and your faith holds on to that promise. Nothing doubting, but at times you kind of start losing hope and your hope has to be replenished. When you hear a positive word like good preaching, your fuel tank gets refilled with new hope and then you just keep on keeping on, pursuing God's promise.
Are you holding onto a promise that God gave you? You believe with all your heart, but you are beginning to wonder whether God has really spoken to you. But I'm here to encourage you this morning. Don't lose your hope.
Hope in God’s Timing
God is faithful. He will surely do what he said, what he had promised. He will surely do it. Expect Him to do it. But he has a time - his time, not my time or your time.
May this message be a filling station this morning to fill your tank with new hope.”
