A Way Together
In 2023, God will make a way. He'll make a way through waters, through the deserts. He’ll make a way back to Himself for us all the time. But I want to point out one last thing this week and that is that He will make a way for us together.
Listen again to that reading from Isaiah. God said, “I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise. Yet you have not called on me, Jacob, you have not wearied yourselves for me, Israel.” (Isaiah 43:20–22 NIV11)
When he says Jacob is referring to Israel as a nation.
Strength in Community
When God makes a way for you, friends, it's never meant to be travelled alone. It's meant to be travelled with the community of God's people. He makes a way for us together. He makes a way through the deserts for groups of people.
And you know what? Christian people are flawed people, but we love God and we love each other. We're all struggling along trying to get through the month, the week, the day. But together, together we can do it! Alone? No ways!
You know, I've been so blessed at the Church of the Nazarene here in Boksburg. The Afrikaans congregation has so kindly welcomed me and encouraged the start of the English service last year. We're one church. We're not two churches. We're one church with an English and Afrikaans congregation. But it's been a joy to come alongside people of God and make new friends, do life together with other Christians.
Community in Faith
Are you trying to make a way by yourself? Have you isolated yourself from the community of God? Ah friends, God makes a way together! Together we get through the waters. Together we withstand the deserts. Together we reconnect to God.
Find a church where you can gather with God's people and find hope. Find other Christian men and women who you can connect with and who can pray with you. God has made a way, friends, but the way is so much easier when you are walking it with others.
And so this year, don't isolate yourself, but get plugged into community and walk the way that God is making with other Christians.
