A Picture in My Life

These devotions on Abraham come from a sermon series I preached in 2024. I remember when I put the outlines together earlier that year, I was excited to begin preaching through Abraham’s life. But when the time came for me to start the series, I sat in prayer and asked God for something else – some other theme, something that didn’t have to do with Abraham and this promise of a child that he and Sarah had received.

When the Message Hits Home

You see, Shereen and I had been trying for children for some time, and we had had a tough time. Shereen had gone through two miscarriages. We were starting to wonder if it would never happen for us, if it was time to just forget about this dream of having children of our own.

So it wasn’t appealing to me, to preach about Abraham and Sarah and their miracle child! But even so, I started the series, and I even remember a friend of ours at church asking me if it wasn’t quite challenging for me to preach on those themes. It was, but I wondered if perhaps God was speaking to me particularly through this story.

Our confusion and disappointment was multiplied when somebody told us they had received a word from God saying that June 2025 was going to be our time. We counted back 9 months… and nothing happened. So we discounted that word.

Then at the beginning of 2025 somebody told us March was going to be our month. It didn’t happen. We were more disillusioned than ever.

God’s Word Fulfilled

But then guess what happened. In June 2025, Shereen fell pregnant. And the due date is March 2026. Ha! It seems God did have a message for us through those two friends.

May I ask again for prayer, as Shereen nears 20 weeks? She and our twins are all healthy and well at this point, praise God! But March is still a long way off. Your prayer support would mean the world to us.

So you can see how the Abraham and Sarah story came along, probably, at just the right time for us! We learned to be patient and wait for God’s timing in our lives. He proved faithful. We are thankful for His grace, His guarantee which came through, and His greatness.

My friends: keep holding to Him! His ways are not our ways, His timing is different to ours. But He will come through for you, like He did for us, and like He did for Abraham and Sarah.
