Amazing Love – The Wonder of Salvation
It's Sunday, which means some of us may break our Lenten fast today as we celebrate the risen Saviour. And let us also celebrate His amazing love today! Because this whole week's theme of sin and salvation would mean nothing if it weren't for the love of God, displayed perfectly in Jesus.
The Mystery of Divine Love
My favourite Charles Wesley hymn is And Can It Be, which says this at one point:
"Amazing love! How can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?"
Why does God pursue us with prevenient grace? Because He loves us and wants us to know Him.
Why does God convict us of sin? Because He loves us and hates to see us living selfishly and marring that image of Himself He put within us.
Why does God offer to wash away our sin? Because He loves us and wants to free us from guilt's power.
Why does God make us into new people? Because He loves us and sees the best in us, even if nobody else does.
Why does God assure us of His love? Because He loves us and doesn't want us to doubt it.
Amazing love, how can it be, that He would die for me? But oh, wonder of wonders, He did. And now I can be saved and set free from my dark dungeon. Hallelujah!
Celebrating God's Transforming Love
Listen to these great words in 1 John 3:1 "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!"
Fellow child of God, let's celebrate today that God didn't just uncaringly save us. He didn't scorn us, and save us because of some false moral compass. He didn't sigh deeply and save us because it was the right thing to do.
No, no, no. He loved us. Before we were even born, He loved us. And though we sinned, He loved us and made a way for us to find the healing and help we need.
Today is Sunday, so perhaps you are on your way to church. Worship Him today with gladness, with the knowledge that He loves you so deeply!
Perhaps you have already been to church. Why not listen to a song about God's love now? Here, I'll link one in the blog post for you to click on. And here are a few more, too. Listen to them and worship, thanking God for His amazing love.
You don't have to perform perfectly for Him to keep loving you. Just stay connected to Him. And His amazing love will guide you through all of life's ups and downs.
