Blessing With Jesus
Genesis 12 is a very important passage in the Bible because it actually points forward to Jesus. Right here this early in the Bible, verse 3 God says to Abram, “I will bless those who bless you. Whoever curses you, I will curse” and then listen to this: “All peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
Abram and Jesus
All peoples on earth are blessed through Abraham. How could that be? He was just one man in a tiny little area thousands of years ago. Well, he was a blessing because it was through Abram that Jesus would come. This points forward to Jesus Christ, a descendant of Abram who blessed the world with the offer of salvation for all peoples.
Blessing People With Jesus
Here's the thing: through Abram, Jesus would be shared, and the question came to me as I read this: “How am I sharing Jesus? How will people in this world see Jesus in me?” Of course, for Abram, they didn't know at that point. But now, looking back, we see that it was through Abram that Jesus came. Nonetheless how will Jesus be shared through me?
You see, it's not just blessing people through the things we have, as we spoke of yesterday. Anybody can do that with whatever they have. But specifically, how will the Lord Jesus be shared in your life? You can do many good and kind and charitable things on earth, but unless there is the light of Jesus shining into people's hearts, it's all temporary. And I don't know about you, but I want to do more than just temporary good works. I want to do things that have an eternal impact.
How Can You Bless Others with Jesus?
So maybe a conversation about Jesus needs to be had with somebody. Maybe a message needs to be shared with somebody so that they know not just general blessings of the world, but the eternal blessings of knowing Jesus Christ.
Abram didn't quite know it, but in the end, through him, Christ would be shared with the world. May it be that through you and I Christ will be shared with our world today.
