Don’t Get Despondent
Martin Luther King, in his famous speech, was speaking to his brothers and sisters of colour who were still being more or less trampled in their society.
They were starting to get despondent. They were trying to fight for their rights, peacefully. but they felt like they were getting nowhere.
Persisting in Dreaming: Beyond Despair
King said this in that speech: “Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends. So even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”
How powerful. Even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I STILL HAVE A DREAM!
And of course, King died before he could see his dream come true. In our time, it has come true, largely. And King if didn’t keep dreaming, if he got despondent and gave up, what a waste it would have been.
Let us not wallow in the valley of despair he said. Do you need that word today? Have you been despairing, thinking that your dream will never come to fruition? Have you been despondent, lamenting that the dream is slow in coming true?
Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends!!!
Let us keep going, one day at a time.
Let us keep going, one foot in front of the next.
Let us not get weary in chasing the dreams God gave us…
Let us keep on dreaming and keep on believing and keep on moving!
Endurance for the Dream: Perseverance in Pursuit
In the book of Revelation, John has a vision of Jesus speaking to various churches. And to one of the churches Jesus says “You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary” (Revelation 2:3 NIV11)
Will that be true of you? That you did not grow weary and despondent, that you did not wallow in the valley of despair, but you persevered and endured hardships for His name?
No dream that is worth pursuing will come easy. No dream that will be of any significance will be without challenges.
The question is: will we quit when the going gets tough, or will we persevere in the dreams God has given us, and bring them to fruition?
2024 could be the year that God makes your dream come true. Don’t limit him. Don’t sit around when you could be making it happen. And don’t get despondent. Persevere, press on, keep going, and see what God does.
