Don’t Let the Sun Go Down Without saying “I Love You”
I hope that this phrase is not only going to remind you of Elton John, but that you're thinking these terms when you hear the phrase don't let the sun go down on me. Here's one last thought: Don't let the sun go down on your day without having said I love you to the people who need to hear it.
Expressing Daily Love
If you're married, of course, straight away you're thinking your spouse. Spouses need to hear those words from each other all the time because they encourage, they build up, they help to grow love to new levels.
If you're not saying I love you, it could be that doubts start creeping in. Many couples have decided on this plan of action, being sure to say that they love each other at least once a day, and it's a good plan. Maybe you need to revisit that idea in your own marriage.
If you're not married, these words are still powerful, saying I love you to the people in your life - your parents or your children or your brother or sister or deepest friends - it's a powerful thing to be able to say, and of course a lot of men struggle with this because they are words of great affection and it can be difficult to get them out, but man, how each person needs to hear the words I love you from important people in their lives. Don't let the sun go down without expressing your love in words.
Telling God You Love Him
But all of us — all of us — need to remember that telling God that we love Him is an important part of our faith. Psalm 18:1 says, "I love You, Lord, my strength." A beautiful prayer to pray, and I think it's important we do because otherwise our prayers become shopping lists — going to God and just telling Him what we want. We treat Him more like a genie than a Father or a Friend.
Our closeness with God should always lead us to say I love You. This is why we worship. We worship because it's an opportunity for us to express our love for God — in song or in whatever other way we worship. Let your prayers be filled with I love Yous.
Love That Lasts
So whether it's to a spouse, somebody else in your life, or to God, don't let the sun go down without saying I love you. But remember, friends, that in the end, the language of lust is very similar to the language of love. Both say I love you, but one says it for a night and the other for life.
Saying I love you before the sun goes down is not meant to be just a once-off, but it's for every day—it’s for life!
May it be that our lives are defined by multiple I love yous to those who mean the most to us.
