No Regret Finances
Some more words from Derek Wilson today in his 2004 sermon "If Only."
Secondly, another area of regret in many people's lives is finances. Did anybody here buy Dimension Data shares when they were at about 26c? Nobody? Ag if only, if only! Because you know that Dimension Data shares have peaked at about R260, I think. For 26c? that's a pretty good investment!
Two Contrasting Stories About Money
But I wonder how many of us have regrets about the way we've used our money. There are two contrasting stories in the Bible about money. One of them is the story of Ananias and Sapphira, who were challenged to give their all to God, and they kept some for themselves, and they lied to God about it, and that was fatal – literally.
The other is the story of the poor widow in Mark chapter 12, who gave every last cent, every last thing she had. She had two coins, two tiny little coins, and she gave them to God. She bet her all on God.
I tell you what, if there are investment seminars in heaven, they're not going to be taught by Bill Gates and Richard Branson. They're going to be taught by a little widow who gave her everything to God.
Learning Financial Faithfulness
Some of us need to learn to live debt-free. That's a huge challenge in our day and age, because we live in a culture where debt is the norm. Some of us need to try tithing. Some of us need the adventure of giving God more than a tithe. Some of us need to develop a heart for the poor.
Are we going to have regrets one day about the way we handled our money?
