Jesus Brings Life
I love what John wrote about Jesus: “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.” (John 1:3–4 NIV)
In JESUS was life, and nothing was made without him. That’s amazing - this world is a direct result of the life that JESUS holds in his hands.
I remember as a young boy going fishing with my dad at the Vaal River. I remember we pulled up and got out of the car. The water was flowing gently. The birds were singing. There was a peace and a gentleness and a HUGENESS to it all. And I remember Dad saying to me “how can anyone say there isn’t a God… if they could see a sight like this!”
The Wonder of Creation and the Creator's Hand
The beauty and wonder of creation are surely pointers to the CreatOR. As somebody once said, the chance of this universe coming into being by an accidental big bang is as likely as a full dictionary being formed by an explosion in a printing shop!
There must be an intelligent Creator behind the splendour and artistic beauty of this world. Genesis explains it, God creating this world in 6 days. God the creative genius! And John explains that Jesus was there from the beginning – God was always three-in-one remember.
Nothing was made, John said, that didn’t come from the hand of Jesus. In Him was life. I wonder if you need to remember today that your life is a miracle. That your life is not an accident. It’s the result of a caring, kind, creative God, weaving you together and making you you.
A favourite worship song of mine says it’s your breath in our lungs, so we pour out our praise, we pour out our praise! Praise God for the breath in our lungs, the life He has given us! You know what, a few of us here have come close to death in the last few years. You know who you are. You’ve been right there on the precipice… But here you are today, God’s breath in your lungs! He gives us life.

Why are you alive today? Because Jesus! Because Jesus gave you life, you are created and kept alive by the Great and Loving Creator.
So is the person next to you.
So is the person you don’t really get along with.
So is the person who has gone off the rails completely.
Each of us is a precious Creation of God.
Perhaps the world would be a very different place if we saw each person as God’s work of art. Even if they are different to us. Even if they have made different choices. Each person is a masterpiece created by the master.
We live because He’s been alive from the beginning, and granted us the miracle of life.
