Jesus Multiplies
OK let's get to the miracle. Jesus blessed that food and He passed it out. And everybody, the Bible says, had as much as they wanted. And then Jesus says to them in John 6:12, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” And they filled twelve baskets with bread, I mean this is from two little loaves that the boy had brought along!
Abundance Without Waste
Isn't it wonderful the way that God provides for us more than we need most of the time? Most of us have got more food than we need, more clothes than we need, more water than we need, more data than we need as well. We really do serve a God who gives in abundance. But how often we waste our extras.
I love what Jesus said in verse 12: “Let nothing be wasted.” The extras they gathered up, and I wonder what they did with them. I suspect they may have given them out, you know, to others who were in need as they went along from that place.
Giving From Our Overflow
I hope that we are not wasteful people because God gives us more than we need. Let's bless others with our leftovers. And I think there's a spiritual principle at work here as well.
I remember a while back we did a funeral here and it was an outside church that came to do the funeral. And afterwards I said to the man who'd sung at the service, that was lovely, thank you so much. And he said, you know, we just provide our loaves and fish and God multiplies it to many. And that really stuck with me.
God Multiplies What We Offer
We bring God our offerings of our gifts and our time and our talents and our resources. And if we give it to Him in faith, make it available to Him, He can multiply it in amazing ways.
I mean, I've seen that happen in these daily devotions. These started as little sermon recaps for the evening service community at eMseni which is the smallest of all the services. And now, I mean, I send it out to 700 or 800 people and I know so many of you share it and share it and share it. It gets out. It is how many in a sense. Isn't this what God is doing with my little loaves and fish? He's just multiplying it to bless others and I just want to give Him the glory for that today.
What are you bringing to God?
