Jesus the King of our Hearts

Well, I hope you've enjoyed looking at John 6 with me this week. Jesus taking those two little loaves and two little fish and making a multitude in His miraculous way. But then see what happens in verses 14 and 15. Where we read: "After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, 'Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.'“ And in verse 15, “Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make Him king by force, withdrew again to the mountain by Himself."

The Humility of Jesus

And this really speaks to Jesus' humility, doesn't it? He could have said, “OK, great” and exalted Himself in that way to become the king of the Jews in the way they wanted.

But as what one of my commentaries says: “Jesus was not moved by such appeals to vanity and pride. He realised that He had come into the world to die as a substitute for sinners on the cross. He would do nothing to interfere with that objective, and so He withdrew because they didn't understand His calling.”

The True King

It's quite a thing, isn't it? When they came to make Him king, He withdrew. But when they came to arrest Him, all that time later, He didn't resist. And amazingly, it was in not resisting His death that He actually became King. Isn't that something to think of?

When the people tried to make Him king. That wasn't ever going to work. He wasn't going to become the right type of king. But when He died on the cross and rose again, He confirmed that He was God's Son and that He was the King of kings and Lord of Lords.

Is Jesus Your King?

But let me ask you this: is Jesus the King of your heart? You don't need to force Him into the position. He's willing. He's willing to be the King of your spirit and your soul. What does that mean? It just means that you live in His ways and you live for His glory, and you live to love Him, and you live to be like Him, and you live to worship Him and give Him glory.

Does Jesus have that place in your life? If you ask Him in faith, He's not going to rush away like He did from that crowd who had it wrong, because He does want to be that person for you.

Come and bow before Him today. Come and offer Him yourself. Come and invite Him into your heart! And when He becomes number 1 in your life, oh man! There is a peace, there is a joy, and there is a power that comes from that, that is truly one of a kind.

I hope you’ll do it.
