Jesus the Lover of Souls

Having described Jesus as the faithful witness, the first born from the dead and the ruler of the kings of the earth, John begins to give him glory and says “to him who loves us and has freed us from us sins by His blood to him by glory and power forever and ever.” (Revelation 1:6)

Loved By the Greatest of All

Think of this. He's just described Jesus in great magnificent, majestic terms. He's painted a high and mighty picture of Jesus and then he says “he loves us”. This great and wonderful Jesus who rules over everything, loves us. Isn't that something?

It's easy for people to get starstruck when they see somebody they admire in person. I remember as a young boy I loved cricket, and at one point the South African cricket team was practicing, somewhere in Johannesburg, and we went to watch. We got to see these guys up close and personal and get them to sign our shirt or our little cricket bat. Seeing them in person was almost mesmerizing as a young boy! I was so taken and actually kind of terrified of these men because I held them in such high esteem.

That should be the tiniest taste of how we feel towards God. And yet, unlike those famous figures who are distant from us because they're just human beings, they can't become best friends with everybody. This God who is so much higher loves us personally. Truly, we can only understand the depth of his love if we understand the greatness of His majesty.

A Mind-Boggling Love

The fact that the glorious Jesus offers us love is absolutely mind boggling and the fact that He freed us from our sins by his blood, as John wrote here, is incredible. In other words, this high and mighty God shed blood so that he could connect with us, so that we could be forgiven and freed.

What an incredible truth that someone so above everything would condescend to our level and shed his blood to draw us back to him. Let’s praise him today, friends, and let’s glory in his love today and give our lives to him because of how he gave his precious life, his majestic and glorious life, out of love for us.
