God First
As we saw yesterday, Joseph saw some dejected looking people and he reached out to them and they told him about these dreams that had upset them so. And as he listens to their dreams, Joseph says this to them: "Don't interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams" (Genesis 40:8 NIV). And then he, of course, had a gift for interpreting them and told them exactly what it was about.
Giving God Glory
Notice how he gives the glory to God before he even does anything. He doesn't say, "You know what? I'm gifted in this and I can help you." He simply points to God first. I wonder how many of us have the same mindset. I wonder how many of us point to God before we point to ourselves.
And think of it: Joseph was in prison wrongfully accused. He could have been angry at God, but he still gives God the glory and focuses everybody else's attention on God. It reminds me a lot of John the Baptist, who at one point said "He must become greater; I must become less" (John 3:30 NIV). Again, taking the focus off of himself. What a great witness and what a great way to live our lives.
Living for His Glory
Friends, today and every day, let us always point to God and not turn the attention to ourselves, but to Him. He truly is the one to whom all the glory belongs, and may our lives always reflect that.
