Finishing Your Story

John’s Gospel comes to an end with these last couple of verses. John firstly confirms that everything he wrote is true, and then in John 21:25 says: “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”

And so he came to the end of his story.

Ending with Jesus

I think it’s very significant that John ends his story — ends his book — by pointing to Jesus and saying how amazing Jesus is. Let me ask you this: how are you going to end your story?

That might mean the end of your life, or it might mean the end of a season in your life. It could mean the end of a particular project or something else entirely.

Many of us have come to ends in this last while. I know I did at the end of last year and began a whole new life in 2022.

The Focus of Your Story

Are we going to end our stories pointing to Jesus like John did? He could have ended by saying, “I was there, it was all me. I was the one who took it all down. Thank God I was here.”

But no, he doesn’t. He says, “Jesus was great. Jesus did amazing things. Jesus is the reason for it all.” End your story the same way, friends. End your stories with Jesus in focus, with Jesus being lifted high, with Jesus being at the top.

Because you see, whatever season might be coming to an end in your life, the only thing that truly matters is whether Jesus has been King and exalted in that season.

A Season’s End

So here we are at the end of a week, which I suppose is the end of a tiny season. May Jesus be lifted high in your heart and in your life this weekend.
