Life is Tough – Entrust It
As we continue to talk about how life is tough, I want to say this: entrust your life to God. If you can get an attitude going in your heart that says “Whatever comes my way, I will trust him”, then nothing will break you. It's all about entrusting our lives to God when bad things come our way.
To entrust means to give something to someone else to care for it, to put something into their protection. And the only way to get through this tough life and still thrive is to entrust our lives to God! To give them to God and say, “We're in your hands, Lord.” And to believe it.
Choosing Trust: Embracing Faith Over Troubles
Again, this is a choice. It's a choice we have to make. We can choose to be bitter and upset when things don't go our way, or we can choose to trust in God. We can choose to draw near to him and praise and worship him. We can choose to dive deep and hold on to our faith and persevere.
Jesus said in that verse we read earlier in this week in this world “you will have trouble, but take heart. I have overcome the world.” I have done it!
So we can take heart! Why? Because Jesus has overcome the world. If we entrust our lives to him, we too can overcome. Will you say “Yes, Lord” today? “I believe that you've overcome the world. I lay my burdens down at your feet and trust you.”
A photographer was once asked to go take pictures of a big forest fire raging over the mountains. He was told a small plane would be waiting for him to fly over the fire. So he rushed to the airport and sure enough, he found a little plane there. He jumped in with his equipment and said, “let's go.” And so the pilot, the plane and the photographer were soon in the air. The photographer shouted, “Let's go over to the north side of the fire and make some low passes.” And the pilots nervously replied, “Why?” “I'm going to take pictures,” the man said, “I'm the photographer, remember?” And there was a long pause, and the pilot said, “You mean you're not my instructor?”
Choosing the Right Pilot: Entrusting Life to God
They both thought the other person was somebody else. They ended up entrusting their lives to the wrong person. And so often we do this - we face these fires in our lives and we lean on the wrong things. We expect the wrong things to get us through. We hope that our inner strength or our success maybe, or our high standing or our money will get us through. And we run to things that will make us feel better - binge watched too much TV or eat too much food or too much drink.
And instead God says, “entrust your life to me and I will get you through.” He is the pilot who will get us through times like these.
Life is tough and so entrust your life to him and take heart today.
