God Saves Us From Death
David's words about God's love really helped us yesterday. And if we go on to verse 13, he says it again, “For great is Your love toward me.” Then he says this: “You have delivered me from the depths, from the realm of the dead.”
Now David really did experience this. God saved him in many ways from people who were trying to kill him. And so he gives God the praise for literally saving him.
God's Saving Love
Maybe you've also got a similar story of how God intervened and if He hadn't, you would probably have died. Praise God if that's the case for you.
But of course, this verse reminds us of the supreme hope that Christians have in life after death. There's that great verse that we read at most funerals from John 11 where Jesus says “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in Me will never die eternally.”
And for many people this has given them great hope that not even death will separate us from the love of God if we have come to Him and placed our faith in Him.
And it's also given many people great assurance about where their loved ones are after they die on this earth. If they've placed their faith in Christ, then we know for sure that they haven't died spiritually.
And so this is a great promise for us and let's remember it and take hope from it.
Living Fully While We Can
But let's not live with this kind of pie-in-the-sky attitude that says nothing here really matters because heaven awaits. No, no, no, let's live life to the full while we still can! Praising God for the benefit of eternal life that He gives us, but living life with all our hearts while we still can.
Paul is a guy who seemed to live this very well. He was always looking forward to heaven and saying one day I'll be there and that’ll be a great gain. But he said, life is all about Jesus while I'm here.
So just as David thanked God for delivering him from the depths and the realm of the dead, let’s thank God that we too will one day find new life on the other side of the grave. But while we’re here, let’s make our lives count!
