God is Forgiving and Good

David seemed to be in a bad way at the beginning of Psalm 86, crying out to God in various ways. But David does what he always does in his Psalms, which is he remembers who God is and reminds himself to have faith.

Have a look at this in verse 5: “You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call on You.” What a verse! That's a verse for you to write in your heart, to maybe stick up on your cupboard, on your wall, or make the background of your phone or your computer so that you can see it.

Keeping Scripture Before You

Something that I've been doing these days is creating a prayer reminder on my calendar so that throughout the day at various points my verse of the day or my thought of the day from my devotions dings on my phone. And when I look down to see what it is, it reminds me, and today this is going to be the verse that I do that with. Because it'll be so great to remember this throughout the day that God is forgiving, forgiving, His merciful. He doesn't hold grudges, but He offers us mercy. He is good, He is not bad, He's not out to get me. He is good. He's abounding in love. Not just giving us a little bit of love, He's abounding in love.

Calling on God

But notice at the end it says to all who call on You. If we aren't calling on God, if we aren't meeting with Him and giving our lives to Him, then we miss out on these benefits! They don't actually help us at all. We've got to call to Him and claim these things in our hearts.

I pray that this verse will sustain you through the day. That you'll call on Him time and time again as the hours go by. And remember that He is forgiving. He is good and He is abounding in love.
