I Know I Am Forgiven
Well, friends, there are 4 verses and four choruses in this song. We're going to look at verse three today, and next week we'll go on to chorus 3 and finish the song as the week goes. Here's how verse three starts: "No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven. The future sure, the price it has been paid. For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon, and He was raised to overthrow the grave."
Jesus' Sacrifice
Where verse and chorus 1 spoke about Jesus, our gift, and verse and chorus 2 spoke about Jesus conquering our dark nights, verse and chorus 3 talk about Jesus' death on the cross and what that accomplished. The songwriter said, "No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven." I love that line because yes, if you don't know that you're forgiven by God, then you're going to live in a state of guilt. You're going to live beating yourself up. You're going to be terrified about what fate you might face when He finally catches up to you.
Forgiveness and Hope
But when you know Jesus, there's no dreading your fate because you know His forgiveness. As the song says, "the future is sure" because the price has been paid. Do you know that Jesus' death on the cross paid the price for your sins? You don't need to pay God for your sins. Jesus paid the price and you can be forgiven simply by placing your faith in Him. You don't have to pay the price because as the song says, "Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon."
Victory Over Death
This is the wonderful news of the gospel - that Jesus died to buy our forgiveness and He was raised to overthrow the grave. In other words, death is not a frightening thing for Christians anymore. We don't dread any fate. The future is sure because of Jesus' death. Because when Jesus died, death was defeated and we will go on living even though we die.
My friends, if you've never placed your faith in Jesus, why don't you do that today? Why don't you come to Him and fall at His feet and say thank you for dying in my place. I put my faith and my trust in You to forgive my sins. Not through anything I've done, but because of what Jesus did. Then, friends, you can rise in peace with no fear, knowing that your sins are forgiven and that death will not be a sad moment for you, but it will be the beginning of new life with Him. I pray that all of us will know that we're forgiven because Jesus paid the price.
Friends, I hope the song is blessing you, and I hope that you'll be singing it in your churches, because it is so worth singing these words. God bless you all and have a wonderful weekend. Take care.
