You Can Trust God’s Words
I hope we have all heard the angel’s message this week, and I love this last thing the angel says to Mary - that she could trust in His Word.
“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.” (Luke 1:34–38 NIV)
No word from God will ever fail. His word is trustworthy. His promises are certain. We don’t need to doubt.
The Living Word: Finding God's Guidance Through Scripture
God needed to communicate with Mary, to tell her what he had planned and how he was going to use her. He couldn’t have just let it happen and expected her to fill in the blanks.
Sometimes it feels as if God does that with us, right? Just sends us on our way and expects us to figure out what he wants. But here he sends an angel to speak directly with her.
In today’s times, we believe that God has revealed himself and his will fully in the Word. The Bible. We as Christians don’t believe that this is just some old book, hopelessly outdated. We know by faith and by experience that this is the living Word of God.
You can trust it. God’s Word is trustworthy, there’s a part in one of Paul’s letters where he says it’s not as if God’s Word has failed!
Mary heard a direct word from God through an angel. You can I hear direct words from God through His Word. And when you read it friends, and pray for God’s guidance and wisdom; when you use it to seek Him and not just information about Him; when you dig deep and soak in these words day by day…
God's Message: Embracing Assurance and Purpose in His Word
You learn exactly what the angel said to Mary!
- You learn that You are favoured by God, when your faith is firmly planted in Him
- You learn that You are not alone. He is with you to help you
- You hear him say ‘do not fear’ over and over…
- You remember daily that you are chosen to God’s will, using your gifts and talents and time
Turns out you and I don’t need angel messengers. God’s Word is our message.
And so read it! Memorise it! Soak your life in it! No word from God will ever fail. It’s worth giving your life to.
