Supporters’ Extra Devotion: Making Commitments at the Altar
Just a huge thank you, as always, for donating to the ministry I do, my friends. I hope that these daily devotions are still blessing you every week. And this week Abraham and Lot had a lot to teach us about compromise, concessions, careless choices, and of course, a covenant-making God.
I want us to notice as we go back to Genesis 13 today that Abraham—or Abram, as he was known then—was committed to worshiping God.
A Place to Call to God in Prayer
Earlier in the chapter, in verses 3 and 4, we see that Abraham was wandering around, and then he came to Bethel, the place between Bethel and Ai, where he had first built an altar. And it says “there Abram called on the name of the Lord”. So he had this place, this altar, where he would call on God in prayer.
And then at the end of the chapter, the same thing happens. The two men split up, and God reminds Abraham of his covenant. In verse 18, we read “so Abram went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he pitched his tents, and there he built an altar to the Lord.” So he loved to make an altar at which he could worship.
Now, of course, Christ died at the cross… Read the rest of this blog, or listen to the audio devotion, here on my Patreon. I’d be so grateful for your support!
