Don't Wait Too Long

Don't Wait Too Long

While preaching in his church one Sunday, Pastor Duma noticed a well-dressed young man sitting near the back, and his whole being was leaned forward as if he'd been confronted with something that he desperately needed.

Duma says "My spirit responded. I felt it was urgent that this man should be found by Christ, that he should yield to the power of the Spirit, which was obviously on him. And so, at the close of the service, I hastened towards him to shake his hand and ask if he were one of Christ's men. Smiling but shaking his head, he said, 'Not yet,' and excused himself, hurrying away."

This happened for the next few Sundays as well. Duma kept finding him after the service to ask if he'd come to Christ yet, and the man acknowledged that he needed to, but he always said, "Not quite yet, not quite yet."

A Crucial Moment

One afternoon, Duma said he saw the man's eyes piercing him and thought, "This is the day. This is the day for his capitulation to Christ's call." He said, "I could have wept in the pulpit for the anguish I suffered for his great need and his dallying. I rushed after him lovingly, gently. I looked at him in silence."

"No uMfundisi. I'm not ready yet. Not today to say yes to Christ," the young man said.

Duma replied, "How do you know you have tomorrow?"

"Oh, I'll take a chance on that. I'm young. There's plenty of time." With a strange, uncertain look on his face, he tore himself away. Duma felt a heaviness in his heart. Then they heard a terrible crash—the young man who had hurried away went straight out into the street and was hit by a car and killed instantly.

Saying Yes to Jesus

Maybe you're listening to this, and you yourself haven't said your proper 'yes' to Jesus. You may even go to church and listen to messages like this, but you've never given yourself to Jesus and accepted Him as your Lord. You've never received the love that He has for you or trusted in Him and His sacrifice as the only basis of your salvation in God's eyes.

You know what, friends? You might not have as much time as you think. Don't keep putting it off. It's time to come to Him, or perhaps for some of you, to come back to Him. Life is short. Tragedies are around every corner. Please don't wait too long, friends, to say your 'yes' to Jesus, because it's only on this earth that you're going to have the chance.

Share the Love of Christ

And you know what? Maybe it's time as well to speak up to somebody about this. For those of us who are in Christ, is there somebody who needs to hear your testimony, who needs to hear about the love of Christ before it's too late for them?

Time is short. Let's make the most of every opportunity we have.
