The True King

The True King

One day, William Duma was invited to Swaziland to pray with King Sobhuza. There was great concern at the time that some political moves being made might lead to violence and unrest in the land, so they asked Duma to spend time there, especially in prayer.

The King's Request

At the king's palace, King Sobhuza specifically requested that Pastor Duma pray for peace, that there would be no unrest or public opposition as he presented his new constitution, and for himself as well. Duma, hearing the king's request, gently responded, "I can pray for the peaceful introduction and reception of the new constitution. I can pray for your health because you need prayer personally, but I can't pray for you as the king. You are the king of Swaziland, but you must first bow down to my King, King Jesus."

Boldness in Faith

Now, wasn't that a bold move on his part? Once again, Duma stood firm in his faith. It reminds me of his uncle Vika, whom we learned about last week—perhaps that's where he learned this boldness in faith. The king replied, "I've heard many things in my life, but as far as I'm concerned, it seemed to me that this Christ was dead. But now He has come alive through this man speaking to me in such a manner."

Duma’s boldness truly paid off, causing the king to believe. The author says the king then knelt, confessed his belief in Jesus Christ, and admitted that Jesus was the King of Kings. Pastor Duma then said, "Now I can pray for you." As they were leaving, the king remarked, "This is a moment in my life I'll never forget."

Jesus as King

There are many good worldly leaders out there, and many bad ones too. But let's remember that the only true King, the King of Kings, is Jesus Christ. Who is number one in your life? Let me ask you, who is most important, most revered, and most hoped in? It might not even be someone political. Maybe for you, that person is yourself—all your hope is on your own shoulders and what you can do in your life.

Well, friends, the one who sits on the throne of your heart needs to be King Jesus. Only He can rule your life the way it's supposed to be. I pray that, like this king, you will bow down and say, "My King is Jesus Christ." Then, live your life as a loyal servant in His Kingdom.
