Grateful for Opportunities

Well, as I think back to these four years I’ve spent at eMseni, I’m amazed at how God orchestrated this whole thing, because I had kind of given up on the thought of coming into ministry. I thought, “I’m a musician, that’s all.” But in the years leading up to my starting here, God was at work, and He was orchestrating things.

God’s Perfect Timing

I ended up going on a men’s camp to lead worship. Bill Maker was the speaker, and we had a chat. He asked me to lead one of the devotional sessions that weekend so that he could see what I was capable of—and that ended up leading to me starting at eMseni in a pastoral role. I can see God’s fingerprints on this, so to speak.

My time here also ended up going differently to what I thought. For one thing, during COVID, my skills that I had learned lecturing at the college and doing my diploma in sound engineering helped us at eMseni so much. I can’t believe how my previous experience paid off. And so, you know, God was orchestrating this whole thing.

Trusting God’s Plan

It makes me think of Acts 13:4, where we read about Paul and Barnabas being sent out by the Holy Spirit. And I look at my life and see how the Holy Spirit has been putting things in place—perhaps not the way I thought it would happen—but God had a plan, and amazing things came of it.

I wonder if you’re frustrated at your current situation, thinking, “How is God at work here? I don’t understand what He’s doing.” In fact, to some extent, as I look forward to the future, I’m not sure what God’s doing. But looking back now at my time at eMseni has reminded me to be trustful and to have faith that God is indeed at work, even if I can’t see it.

It’s only as I look back now that I can see what God was doing.

God Is at Work

And so perhaps you need to hear this today—that God is doing something in your life at the moment, even if you’ll only see exactly what He was doing later. He is going to use your current situation and even your past for good.

Paul in Ephesians 5:16 tells us to “make the most of the opportunities we’ve been given”. And so hear this, friends: wherever you are, make the most of it. God is at work, and if you will throw your all into it, I know He’s going to do great things.

I’m so grateful for the opportunities I had at eMseni, and I see how God was at work before and during that time. I know that He’s at work as I look forward. And I know that the same is true for you. Believe it today—God is doing great things in your life even as I speak.
