Born to Give Us Second Birth

OK, let's look at that last verse. This is how it starts:

Mild he lays his Glory by,
Born—that Man no more may die,
Born—to raise the Sons of Earth,
Born—to give them Second Birth.

“Mild He lays His glory by.” That reminds me of Philippians 2, which talks about how Jesus made Himself nothing. Even though He was God in nature, He made Himself nothing, laid His glory by. That was what He came to do—was to serve.

Jesus' Humility

But I love these three born sentences. Did you see them? Born that man no more may die, born to raise the sons of earth. Jesus was born so that you and I don't need to die eternally!

Straight away, that reminds me of John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." You know that one I'm sure. He was born so that we would have eternal life. He was born to raise the sons and daughters of earth, raise them to eternal life so that they would never die eternally.

What an amazing truth to remember this Christmas, that His birth allowed our death to be cancelled by what He would do later on.

Second Birth

Then there's a third little born sentence here which says He was “born to give them second birth” - to give us second birth. You see, it's not just a ticket to heaven that Jesus was all about. He was here to transform lives.

He was born so that we could be born again and become made new by His power. We can live lives that are utterly transformed, friends—lives of great goodness, great love, and great holiness. We can be free from our old lives of sin and sickness. We can be born again and made new if we are filled with His Spirit.

I mean, look at how that happened to Peter. Peter walked along with Jesus for a long time, stumbled and fell, and stumbled and fell. And then he was filled with the Spirit and became a giant of the faith.

Look at Paul—stuck in murderous ways until he was filled with the Spirit and became a new person. He was born again - truly.

Come to Jesus this Christmas, to be born again. He was born so that we can have our second birth. Place your faith in Him. Believe in Him with all your heart and receive the miracle of a second birth that nobody else can bring you.
