Jesus Our Immanuel

OK, the second verse of Hark the Herald Angels Sing goes like this.

CHRIST, by highest Heav'n ador'd,
CHRIST, the Everlasting Lord,
Late in Time behold him come,
Offspring of a Virgin's Womb.

Veil'd in Flesh, the Godhead see,
Hail th' Incarnate Deity!
Pleas'd as Man with man to dwell
Jesus our Immanuel

I like how Wesley in these words celebrates the miracle of Jesus. Truly it was a miracle that He came. He was the offspring of a virgin's womb - let's not forget that this Christmas, that God orchestrated this whole thing through an unbelievable miracle. But He did it because our God is able to do anything!

Divine Miracle

And let's remember that. Jesus was not just a man, but He was a Godhead veiled in flesh. He was God with skin on, as one of my mentors would say. And so, yes, we hail the incarnate deity. We worship the deity - God - who took on flesh. Doesn't it just blow your mind that God Himself came as a baby boy so that He could accomplish His purpose?

Now, I like how Wesley has that line, pleased as man with man to dwell. In other words, pleased to become a human and live with other humans. Jesus, our Immanuel. Remember, Immanuel means God with us. We find that in Matthew 1:23.

Celebrate Jesus

So friends, celebrate this Christmas. All of heaven - the highest heaven - adores Jesus all the time because of what He did. Will you join the highest heaven and adore Christ, who came down in flesh to be with us, to be Emmanuel, God with us?

Remember, He is with you even now. If you've received His Spirit in faith, then He is God with you. You're not alone. Yes, you can hail or worship the Incarnate deity this Christmas, not just for coming down that time, but for being Immanuel—God with you and me—even today through His Spirit.
