I Will Be Glad and Rejoice in Him
As we continue in Psalm 9, we read this in verse 2, “I will be glad and rejoice in you.”
Can you hear how David has made a decision to be glad and rejoice? I will be glad and rejoice. I have decided that I will be glad. I will be full of joy.
You know, so often we start the year with great plans and then we realize that the world hasn't changed and all the same problems are around and we just get dejected very quickly.
Choosing Joy Daily
You know what? We need to decide, decide to rejoice, decide to be glad. And we can do this whether we feel happy or not. Do you hear that? We can be glad and rejoice whether we feel great or whether we feel bad. We can consider Jesus our delight and consider God to be our greatest joy, whether we're in a good place or a bad place.
I think this is a good mindset for us to adopt in the new year saying, joy will define my year. Know that hard times are going to come. We know that it's not going to be an easy year. Every year comes with its own challenges, its own struggles. But that must not determine our joy. Our joy is found in the one who isn't up and down, but the one who is faithful, constant, consistent. He is the same yesterday and tomorrow, we can rejoice in him, whatever our mood, because He is the same.
Joy in the Lord
Choose as the year starts what's going to give you joy. If you're going to look for joy this year in yourself, in dreams coming true and in people's praise of you, if you're going to look for joy in new things, new experiences, if you're going to rely on people and things for your joy, you'll find quickly that it doesn't last. Not to say that these things can't bring you some pleasure this year, but in the end, it is in Him, in Jesus that we need to be glad and rejoice. If that is our mindset, if we run after him this year, joyfully looking for his friendship and his love, then in good times and in bed, our hearts will soar.
Make this declaration with David today, “I will be glad and rejoicing the Lord this year.”
