I Will Tell of His Wonderful Deeds
Psalm 9:1 says, “I will give thanks to your Lord of all my heart”, and then the next part of the verse says, “I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.”
Isn't that another nice “I will” statement for us to start the year with? I will tell of God's wonderful deeds. I will not keep it to myself. I will not go inwards into my own little world this year, but I will look outward and tell the story to anybody who will hear, tell the story of how God has worked in my life.
Testifying God's Work
Now, there's thoughts that Psalm 9 may have been written after David defeated Goliath. Some people believe that. And I think it's quite profound that he opens by saying, “I will give thanks to God, and I will tell of his wonderful deeds”. Not I will tell everybody what I've done. I will flex my own muscles! But I will tell of God's deeds.
What good things have happened in your life lately? Will you tell people about how God has accomplished this for you? What blessings have you enjoyed over this Christmas season? Will you tell people what God has done as you explain to them these things?
Share God's Grace
There's a great story in Acts chapter 5 where the apostles were put in jail. But during the night an angel comes and breaks the doors of the jail open and brings them out.
And the angel says this to them in verse 20: “Go stand in the temple courts and tell the people all about this new life.” And for me this is like a parable: if God has broken the chains in your life and set you free, go and tell people your story! Go into your temple courts, your church. Go into your workplace and your family life and tell people: “Something amazing has happened to me. God has given me new life!”
Will 2023 be a year of telling God's wonderful deeds to the world? Let's remember that this is really our call as Christians not to keep the good news to ourselves but to go tell everybody the good news.
