Seek Joy in God
So when morning has broken, we come to God and we pray as David has commended to us in Psalm 5. I want to look at verse 11 and 12 today where he says, “Let all who take refuge in you be glad and let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you”.
Seeking Joy Daily
And so friends in the morning, take refuge in God and be glad! I've shared these words many times in my devotions, but every time I hear them they encourage me. George Muller, the great German minister in the 1800s, used to always struggle in his Christian journey and then he discovered joy in God through reading the Bible.
This is what he said, “I saw more clearly than ever that the first and great primary business to which I ought to attend every day was to have my soul happy in the Lord. The first thing to be concerned about was not how much I might serve the Lord, but how I might get my soul into a happy state and how my inner man might be nourished by God.”
And he spoke about how he would search the scriptures for joy, because he said if he wasn't serving God out of a place of joy, then he wasn't honoring God, he was just doing what he was supposed to do and God doesn't get honored by that.
Embracing God's Joy
In the morning, find joy in God. Search the scriptures for joy. Spend time with God seeking his face joyfully.
Being with God in the morning is not about ticking the boxes. “I've done my reading for the day now, I can go” - that's not the attitude. The attitude is “I want to be embraced by God and find joy in him. I need my heart to be soaring in joy as I find my joy in God and then whatever comes my way, that joy will sustain me.”
I pray that time five has been a blessing to you this week and that going forward, we all spend our mornings in God's presence in a special way.
