Thank You Lord
Now, one of the most important oxygen prayers you can be praying is thank You. Thank You, Lord. A short prayer, but one to pray multiple times a day, all throughout the day. Thank You, Lord.
Power of Gratitude
We need to be people who are defined by our gratitude. And this is such a common thing in the Bible! Giving thanks to God is just such a common theme all throughout the Psalms as well. I could read you 100 verses from the Psalms which say thank You, God.
Let me just share one—Psalm 9:1: I will give thanks to You, Lord, with all my heart. Are you giving thanks to God with all your heart all throughout the day - “thank You, Lord”?
John Piper, in a sermon called For God's Sake, Let Grace be Grace, said this: “Wake up in the morning and remember: saved by grace. Thank You, God. Go to work and remember: saved by grace. Thank You, God. Come home and remember: saved by grace. Thank You, Father. Do a good deed for someone and remember: saved by grace. Thank You, Jesus. Exalt in the God of grace. Let your heart overflow with praise and thanks to Him.”
That was so well put. Just whatever you're doing, sprinkle words of thanks into it all the time in prayer.
Recognizing God's Gifts
You know, Shereen and I recently moved homes. We've been overflowing with gratitude. It's been quite tempting for us to say, "Well done, us, we deserve this." You know, “We put in the hard work!” et cetera, et cetera.
But really what we've come to realize is that it's all just a gift from God. We can see God's hand of blessing on all the things leading up to this—His prevenient grace making a way for us. And we're learning to say: thank You, Lord, thank You, Lord.
Look around today and instead of saying, "Well done, me"—maybe it's time to say: Thank You, Lord. Thank You, God. I'm saved by grace. You've blessed me. And so thank You. May your day be filled with this one little prayer: Thank You, Lord.
