Help Me Lord
Here's another oxygen prayer I like to pray. It's simply: Help me, Lord.
I pray this one a lot for any meeting or any conversation that I need to have with someone. Help me, Lord. Help me to just get this right before I'm doing anything, pretty much. Before I'm playing any song or recording any message or doing the things I do. Help me, Lord. Help me to do this to Your glory, with Your Spirit's strength.
Climbing out of bed in the morning. Help me, Lord. Help me today. Help me to live this life. I can't do it by myself. Help me.
Prayers from the Psalms
This type of language is all over the Psalms.
Psalm 22:19: "You, Lord, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me."
Psalm 38:22: "Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior."
Psalm 40:13: "Come quickly, Lord, to help me."
Psalm 109:26: "Help me, Lord my God; save me according to Your unfailing love."
A Cry from the Heart
And in fact, there's an instance in the Gospels where Jesus is approached by a Canaanite woman—which means she wasn't a Jew, she wasn't part of the chosen people, according to the Jewish thinking. She came and said to Him, “My daughter is demon possessed and suffering terribly,” and Jesus didn't say a word. At one point she kneels before Him and she says, “Lord, help me.” (Matthew 15:25)
Lord, help me. It's such a simple prayer, but I wonder how often we just try to do things by ourselves instead of asking for God's help.
Rely on the Helper
As you look ahead at your day, or at the week that you're facing, or at the months ahead, are you saying, “Lord, help me” all the time?
Lord, help me to cope.
Help me to get up and keep going.
Help me to be kind.
Help me to be more like You.
Help me, help me, help me.
We just can't do it alone, friends. We need a Helper. You know what Jesus said in John 14:16? He said that He would send an Advocate to help us and be with us. The Holy Spirit is our Helper.
So cry out today, friends: Help me, Lord, as many times as you need, and be assured the Spirit will come and help you along your way as you ask.
