Choose Joy!
So, my friends, I hope that Psalm 31 has been a blessing to you. David chose his fortress carefully and his rock. He chose to avoid the traps that the enemy set for him. He chose to submit to God, commit to Him entirely, and chose to trust in Him.
And today I want to go back to verse 7 and remind us that David chose to rejoice. Verse 7 says, "I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul."
That's a huge verse. David says, "I will be glad." And remember, the rest of the Psalm talks about how difficult things were for him. But he still said, "I will be glad and rejoice," even though he was in a bad place.
And why? He says it’s because God had seen his affliction and knew his anguish. David recognized that God was alongside him through the whole process. That’s a wonderful truth, and so he said, "I will rejoice in that." Joy is a choice.
Choosing Joy in Every Season
A lot of the time, my friends, joy comes naturally because of good things happening in our lives. But when bad things come, it’s a choice to say, "I will be glad and rejoice." We can choose to fix our eyes on our faithful friend and companion, Jesus, and His presence will give us joy. Even when things seem to steal our joy, no pain can take away the deep, lasting joy that comes from being a follower of Jesus and a child of the living God.
Even if we are in tears because of life’s difficulties, when we remember that we have a God who loves, saves, and cares for us, our hearts can still soar. We need to choose to see this gift for what it is.
So I pray that today, friends, even if we are in a tough situation, we will say these words with David: "I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul."
The Gift of Joy in God's Presence
What a joy it is to have a friend who is with us through it all. Let God be the reason for your joy today. God bless you all.
