Choose to Trust

The Choice is Yours! Psalm 31 - Choose to Trust

Yesterday, we saw David committing himself to God, choosing to turn his life over to God's power. The verses that follow continue as we see David choosing to trust in God. In verse 6, he says, "I hate those who cling to worthless idols. As for me, I trust in the Lord."

Trusting in the Lord

And I love that he does this, friends, because in verses 9 to 13, we see that David is really in a bad place. He says, "My life is consumed with anguish, my years are consumed by groaning; my strength fails, my bones grow weak. I am the contempt of my neighbors, an object of dread to my friends. They see me on the street and flee from me. I am forgotten as though dead, and people are conspiring against me." I mean, he really is not in a good place, but... In verse 14, he says this: "But I trust in you, Lord. I say, 'You are my God. My times are in your hands.'"

Choosing Faith in Difficult Times

Once again, do you see the choice he's made here? Friends, he's saying, "I'm in a bad way. I'm struggling. I'm struggling, Lord. I'm taking strain here. But I trust in you. I say, You are my God, and my times are in your hands."

You know, friends, we may not be able to control what happens to us, just like David couldn't control all the people coming after him and the anguish he faced, but he could control his response to it. And he chose to trust in God. He chose to say, "In spite of all this, I believe that my time is in God's hands. I've committed to Him, and so I don't need to worry."

This is a great step of faith for many of us. It's difficult, but friends, God is worthy. God is worthy of our trust. Can you choose trust today, along with David, in spite of whatever it is you're going through? Can you look at God and say today, "I know that things are bad, Lord, but I trust in you, and I say You are my God. My time is in your hands."

Oh, I hope you will, friends, because if you can say that and believe it, then whatever comes your way, you'll be able to handle it with the help of your God.
