Seeing the Angels
Well, Lopez Lomong managed to escape his prison along with three other boys, as we read in his book Running For My Life. They were eventually rescued and taken to a refugee camp, but Lomong never saw the other three boys again. Listen to what he writes in the book:

"To this day I do not know what happened to them. I got up one morning and they were gone. I thought they must have tried to walk back to our village, since that's where we thought we were going when we escaped the prison camp… But that never happened. The three teenage boys who saved my life were never heard from again. I've tried to find them on the trips I have taken back to Sudan over the past few years. No one in my village or the surrounding area has any idea who they were. It is as if they simply appeared in the prison camp, took care of me, led me to freedom, and then disappeared, just like angels in the Bible."
I wondered, as I read that, if those perhaps were three angels that the Lord sent down to help Lopez find his way to safety.
I've shared before about the time my dad and I were pulling out of our driveway and a car full of equipment when hijackers pulled up behind us, and they took one look at us and sped off without touching us. We believe that they saw some angels there with us and that scared them off!
There was also the time my wife and her mother stopped to help a father and child late one night as they were travelling. Once they had got them sorted out with some food, they turned around and the two of them had vanished. Angels, perhaps?
What Does the Bible Say About Angels Among Us?
Jesus talks about angels in Matthew 18. He said, "See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven." (Matthew 18:10)
Their angels? Lomong's angels were surely at his side for those few days, as he was miraculously delivered from his prison. I wonder if you and I need to ask God for eyes that see His angels more? After all, the book of Hebrews says this: "Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it." (Hebrews 13:2)
